What is the Online BLS for Healthcare Provider course?

This course allows you to complete everything online except the short skills evaluation. After you complete the hands-on skills evaluation with an AHA BLS Instructor, you will earn the official BLS for Healthcare Provider card from the American Heart.

Who qualifies to take this course?

Anyone who has attended a BLS class in the past.

Is this program just for renewal?

Yes, this program was developed for the experienced healthcare provider with previous CPR training.

What is the Renewal Procedure for Providers?

The following information is word-for-word from the Program Administration Manual, published by the American Heart Association.

Provider Renewal Procedure
The recommended renewal interval for all AHA courses is 2 years. Providers who intend to take a renewal course must show a Provider card as entrance into a renewal course.

The Course Director is responsible for allowing a student to proceed in an initial or renewal course if he/she does not have a current Provider card.

Students who present an expired Provider card or do not possess a Provider card may challenge a renewal course but will not be given the option of remediation. They will need to repeat the entire Provider Course if they cannot successfully meet the course completion requirements when evaluated.

Renewal courses may be conducted independent of or attached to a full Provider and/or Instructor Course.

Is a skills evaluation required?

Yes. In order to earn an AHA BLS card, you must demonstrate the required skills to a American Heart Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor.

How long do I have after I complete the online program to complete the skills evaluation?

You are allowed up to 60 days to take the skills evaluation.

What does my computer need in order for me to take this course?

How does the process work?

Sign up and complete all checkpoints.
Complete the written exam and print certificate.
Present certificate verifying completion to an AHA BLS Instructor doing the evaluation.

Upon completion, an official American Heart "BLS for Healthcare Provider" card will be issued to you.
